In 2 Corinthians 2: 1-11 the people of Corinth receive guidance in the principle of forgiveness.
They are told that if any have caused them grief to forgive him and comfort him.
vs. 8 says, " Wherefore I beseech you that ye should confirm your love toward him."
Now I know just as well as anyone.. that is NOT easy. When someone breaks your heart, causes you grief, makes you life hard and crushes your spirit.. the last thing you want for them is for them to be loved.
But.. if we are to rid ourselves of the pains of this life.. it is necessary to forgive them and move on.
vs. 11 teaches that we would forgive lest Satan should get an advantage of us.
Contention truly is from the devil-he wants us to hate. He wants it to eat us up inside.
We definitely receive the greater blessing from forgiveness
Holding a grudge against someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die - Malachy McCourt.
Mathew 6: 14 says, " For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
If we want forgiveness ourselves it is necessary that we forgive. Along with that I believe comes a peace of mind, a comfort, a spirit that is able to be with you.
You are able to enlarge your mind and think of constructive things instead of dwelling in hatred.
Consequently though, Mathew 6:15 says, "But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
D&C 64:9-10 teaches,
"Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.
It is a commandment that we forgive others. We are told that if we don't we stand in the greater condemnation.
So Forgive. Let Go. Let Yourself Be Forgiven. & Let Yourself Be Comforted.
